Omonblanks takes us to visit Accra-based visual artist Eric Gyamfi in his studio virtually, for an introduction to his visual practice and a visit behind the scenes.
Photography is a way of storytelling. Eric Gyamfi uses photography as a tool for social commentary, storytelling and documentation of the moment, as a mode of communication and social critique. The studio visit allows for a wider audience to explore his images and the stories behind them, and interact with the artist.
The studio visit will take place online, via Zoom. No registration needed. Visitors are asked to join the event with their cameras on.

Eric Gyamfi (b. 1990, Ghana) is a photographer living and working in Ghana. Eric has a B.A in Information studies and with Economics from the University of Ghana (2010 to 2014). He is currently pursuing an MFA at the Department of Painting and Sculpture, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (2018 – ). Gyamfi is also a fellow at the Photographers’ Master Class (Khartoum, Sudan 2016 and Nairobi, Kenya 2017, Johannesburg, South Africa 2018). He was a participant of the Nuku Studio Photography Workshops (2016) and World Press Photo West African Master Class (2017), both in Accra.
Gyamfi has a background in documentary photography. His current interests in the medium and forms of the photograph(ic), continue to fuel his experiments with hybrid digital and analogue/chemical processes. With these experiments, he reflects on the limits of photographic frame(ings) and what possibilities lay outside of them.
How to participate in the Studio Visit?

The studio visit will be organized via Zoom. You can participate with your computer or smartphone. If this is your first meeting using Zoom, please allow 5-10 minutes to get ready in time for the online event. Usually, clicking on the event link launches the necessary steps to join on your device. You will first enter a waiting room. You will be let in once the studio visit starts. Please come a bit early, so we are all there on time.
Please join the studio visit with your camera on, and your microphone muted. Please keep your microphone muted throughout.
There will be room for Q&A. If a question comes to mind during the studio visit and conversation between Omonblanks and Eric, please post it into the chat. We can take your questions from there. At the end of the conversation, there will be a public Q&A and you can raise your hand (change your status in Zoom) – and once it’s your turn, you can unmute yourself and ask your question directly.
Admission will be closed at 5:45 pm CEST / 3:45 pm GMT. So please be on time. The studio visit will start at 5 pm CEST / 3 pm GMT, and run for approximately 2 hours.
